Up until the first Volvo bus came along with the true bus chassis,
typical buses were all built on a truck chassis
The Volvo B7R bus on the Jaipur – Delhi sector clocked 39, 545 kms, an
average of 617 km a day, providing RSRTC with a revenue of
Rs.14,78,961.00 at just 70% load factor.
Our Volvo B7R has 44 seats and I run these buses between
Nagpur-Pune-Mumbai with 42 to 43 seats full every day. [Prasanna]
The bus leave Nagpur at 5.00 in the evening and reach Pune at around
6.30 in the morning. From Pune it leaves at 8.30 in the morning and
arrives in Mumbai at 11.30. An hour later, at 12.30 p.m., the Volvo
begins its return journey to Nagpur
via Pune.
Each of the two Volvo B7Rs with the customer runs over 1000 km each
day and has covered over 1,35,000 km each in the last 4 months. Each
bus has 6 drivers allotted, so that while one driver takes leave on a
day, two drivers remain on duty.
We typically get an average of 3 to 3.5 kmpl. A Volvo bus delivers
high fuel efficiency per passenger kilometer compared to typical buses
on road today, even though the engine horsepower is much higher and
airconditioning is driven directly from the main engine.

At Rs. 52 Lakh, a Volvo B7R bus is twice as expensive as other buses.
Today, the first lot of buses are going to touch 6,00,000 kms.

i had a icici bank account with branch that i hadn't ever visited -
till date, 8+ yrs now!
no, not that i have any specific aversion towards visiting bank
branches, or that branch in particular.
the point i am trying to make is:
1. bank ac operable via the internet (icici's infinity)
2. any branch banking - in the worst case (mentioned below) that you
need to visit a physical branch
3. monies withdrawal happens via the atm, or if you have more monies,
then dispatched to your addr!
4. additional and Powerful features like billpay, ETF and the likes.
perhaps all you might need to do is:
1. deposit cheques (can do at atms)
2. any correspondence, say change of addr, physical stmt - which the
bank can send out using a courier service..
3. get a DD written from the bank (can be couriered)

There's no doubt Ratan Tata had only good intentions when he said he conceived the Rs. 1 lakh car as he cared for the safety of those using two-wheelers. But Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj thinks its just a ploy to market the vehicle.
"He has to sell his car... so he has to speak like that," Bajaj shot back when reporters asked him about Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata's remark that one of the major reasons for him to decide on the 'people's car' was the concern for safety of those travelling by two-wheelers.
Two-wheelers are sold all over the world, it has been proven that they are safe, he said, adding his company's products were safe.
The price differentials between the small car and the high end motorcycles likes of Bajaj Pulsar 200 cc, the to-be-launched Pulsar 220 cc and Hero Honda Karizma are expected to be minimal.

Motorcycles have a far higher accident rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles .

nice and different take.
why must GoI subsidise 'small cars' when the act will only serve to make more of these on the road. and with a large oil import expenditure .. ..
perhaps GoI must focus on 'efficient' cars and not small cars. and perhaps have lower annual fees (registration, insurance) etc for 'greener cars' etc ?
and perhaps, like AS mentioned, GoI must focus on viable public transport, thereby obviating the need for pvt transport entirely!
etc etc.
